High Commission of India in Port Moresby celebrated the 72nd Independence Day of India at INDIA HOUSE on 15 August 2018 with great enthusiasm and gaiety. Around 200 persons including Indian nationals, persons of Indian origin, local friends of India from various walks of life and school children actively participated in the event.
The event started at 8:00 am by unfurling the tricolour, followed by singing of the national anthem and webcast of Hon’ble President’s address to the nation on the eve of 71st anniversary of our Independence Day. Thereafter, I availed of this opportunity to highlight the growth stories of India and efforts of Indian community here to make India’s positive presence visible in Papua New Guinea. School children sang national anthem, followed by a short cultural programme including singing of patriotic songs, reciting patriotic poems in different languages, patriotic theme-based dance, etc., which were well received by the audience. Concluding the event, Indian refreshments and snacks were served to participants. All participants enjoyed and felicitated the event.
